Local Community
Selwood Academies belief is that we should support our local community. As a school we work hard to strengthen partnerships with the community around us and we support our pupils in making a difference on their doorstep and indeed beyond that.
We are proud to have built strong links with the local churches and our pupils get to experience a variety of the local churches and beyond over the year including visiting the oldest Methodist building in the World. Pupils attend a welcome service at Wesley Methodist Church during the Autumn term, we hold our Annual Carol Service at St Johns or Christchurch in Frome and they visit Clink Evangelical Church during the Summer term. They have the opportunity to learn about the variations of Christianity and what they would expect to see in the different churches and the significance of the artefacts they contain. The school opens its doors to the community for school events like Special Assemblies (and invites members of the community to visit or speak during these assemblies), the Christmas Fayre, a Summertime Celebration of the Arts, and School Productions which are held at the local theatre for all the community to enjoy. The school also holds an annual Careers Day where employees can come in to school and talk about local employment opportunities and what those careers require and involve.
Our school buildings are readily available for community use and many clubs are held for Selwood children as well as children from the community so the fantastic grounds can be enjoyed by all.
As a school we very much enjoy taking part in fantastic events that our community offer and are proud to be able to make a difference by supporting local charities, companies and important projects.
