Year 6 Mendip trip
The first group of Year 6 pupils had a fantastic time on the Mendip trip, and returned yesterday tired and happy! The second group are there now and will return on Friday.
Year 6 Mendip residential 2022
On Monday 4th April the Selwood Academy Year 5 & 6 Netball team had their first HOME fixture against Oakfield. This was a friendly match with some brilliant Netball being played. Selwood won 9-0 against Oakfield, Oakfield nominated Mila Noakes as the player of match. Well Done to the whole team for their commitment to the Netball Club.
Pictured are the years 5 and 6 afterschool basketball club enjoying our new basketball nets! The baskets were installed following a student survey set up by the PE department which revealed students really wanted the chance to play basketball. Pupils are able to use the posts in lessons, at lunchtime and during afterschool clubs.
Year 5 Caving Trip
During the week before the Easter holidays, all of Selwood’s Year 5 pupils took part in a Adventure Day as part of the PE curriculum.
The trips were a huge success with all tutor groups taking part in group initiative team building activities and caving in the Burrington Combe area of the Mendip Hills.
The day provided the chance to test and develop pupils team building skills as well as cope and succeed with new (and at times quite scary!) challenges.
Pupils explored the caves and were very fortunate to see greater and lesser horseshoe bats. Pupils also learnt how the caves were formed by underwater rivers and how our ancestors used to live in the very cave we were exploring!
All children were exceptionally well behaved during the visits and should be very proud of themselves- we are!

CLIVE LEWIS RUGBY TOURNAMENT
On Wednesday 30th March, Selwood entered two year 5 and 6 teams into the Clive Lewis Tag Rugby Festival, an annual event held at Frome Rugby Club. Teams were selected based on the commitment these students had shown to the after school tag rugby club earlier in the school year.
It was the return on the festival following the pandemic and we are so pleased our pupils were able to attend and enjoy the event. Our students played some great rugby and score some impressive individual and team tries. Players of the festival, as chosen by their teammates were Lilly C and Harry W.
CROSS COUNTRY 2022
Selwood’s 3rd annual Cross Country Championships were held on the 8th and 10th of March.
The events took place at lunchtime and participation is completely voluntary, however, every runner who complete the course scores a point for their tutor groups interform total.
This year saw a record number of pupils taking part, 480 pupils to be exact! This completely smashed the previous record of 167!
It was also the first year the staff and teachers could also run to support the students and I am pleased to say an impressive 12 took part. An additional 25 staff also volunteered to Marshal the events.
The names of the pupils who finished first second and third in each race category are below. We are extremely proud of all pupils who took part, whether it was running the race, or supporting each other from the side lines.
It was a fantastic event which embraced our Christian values of community, hope, wisdom and joy. Pupils will find out which tutor groups won in the end of term assembly. For more photos of the events, see our website.
