Selwood Academy has once again been judged good in all areas in their most recent inspection which took place in June this year, maintaining its position as the only middle school in Frome deemed good by OFSTED. This builds upon the “Excellent” judgement that the school received in their 2019 SIAMS inspection and the record breaking SATs results that the school achieved in the summer. Head Teacher Dan Jeffries was particularly proud of the achievement in the new more robust inspection framework. Mr Jeffries commented that “the inspectors recognised the strong academic progress that pupils made as well as the exemplary wider curriculum offer that we are so proud of. Pupils study a full curriculum including an extensive and enriching Arts and music programme, Mindfulness and Forest school whilst achieving well academically.”
The new streamlined report from OFSTED highlights how welcoming, and warm the school is, with strong relationships between pupils and staff. Pupils understand the school expectation and enjoy learning a wide range of subjects, listening and responding well. Pupils conduct themselves well and feel safe. It also highlights. It also states “the schools personal development curriculum is well structured to provide a depth of experience. It equips pupils with knowledge to understand society. They learn how to keep physically and mentally healthy. Pupils have many opportunities to learn about careers from a range of employers.”
Mr Jeffries finished by highlighting “I am very happy that the inspectors recognised not only our academic strength but also that the education we provide for the whole child, nurturing their interests, talents and personal development whilst preparing them to make their mark on the wider world.”
Selwood Academy open evening is taking place on Tuesday 20th September with tours available throughout the day, and every day.
