We strive for all members of the community to let their “light shine before others,” demonstrating this by:

Working hard, being kind, doing their best and accepting nothing less.

Whilst doing so all live and embody our school values of Hope, Wisdom, community, and Joy every day.

At Selwood Academy, personal development is at the heart of our school community. We provide a wide, rich and coherently planned programme of experiences that extends far beyond the academic curriculum, enabling every pupil to discover and develop their talents and interests. All pupils benefit from a broad range of high-quality extracurricular opportunities, including 20 trips and visits and four residential experiences each year, with a strong focus on inclusion so that our SEND and disadvantaged pupils are fully supported to take part. We offer a wide variety of clubs across the year, alongside sport and academic inter-tutor competitions, performance opportunities and a dedicated Careers Day where pupils meet a range of external providers.

Our high-quality pastoral support ensures that pupils feel safe, valued and confident, while our curriculum actively promotes resilience, independence, equality and diversity. Through a comprehensive careers programme that meets all Gatsby Benchmarks and provides meaningful encounters with a wide range of providers, we prepare pupils exceptionally well for life in modern Britain and for their next steps in education, employment or training.

Please see our school Pledge.

Author visits

We welcomed Nat Harrison to school as we celebrated the release of her brand new novel, The Girl Who Raced The World!

Pupils had a fantastic time diving into the story, discovering the inspiration behind the book, and exploring exciting story writing techniques. From building tension to creating unforgettable characters, it was a brilliant opportunity to learn directly from a published author.

Year 7 living rainforest trip

Our Year 7 students recently enjoyed an exciting trip to the The Living Rainforest, where they explored the fascinating world of tropical plants and animals. Walking through the warm rainforest glasshouses, pupils discovered exotic species, learned about biodiversity, and gained a deeper understanding of conservation and sustainability. The visit brought classroom learning to life and sparked lots of curiosity, thoughtful questions, and enthusiasm back at school.

Tree Planting

Some of our pupils recently took part in a local tree planting project in Frome, helping to create a new community woodland in memory of much-loved resident Moko Sellars, who sadly passed away in 2022.Working with staff and volunteers, pupils helped dig holes, plant young trees and place protective guards around the saplings.

This hands on experience allowed them to contribute to an important environmental project while learning about the benefits of planting trees. The woodland will eventually include thousands of native trees and shrubs, creating a beautiful space for both wildlife and the community to enjoy. Our pupils were proud to play a small part in helping this special woodland begin to grow.
